A good New Year wish names the person, thanks them for one thing from the year, and wishes them one specific thing for the next: "Happy New Year, Dana! Thanks for every Thursday walk this year. Here's to more of them in 2027." Below are 80 Happy New Year wishes for 2027: short ones to text at midnight, warm ones, funny ones, and lines for family, friends, coworkers, a partner, someone who had a hard year, and anything you send late. Copy one and make it sound like you, or tap it to put it on a card with their face in it, riding the countdown ball all the way down: $4.99, ready about 20 seconds after you pay.
What to send, and when
When you send a New Year wish changes how long it should be. At midnight everyone's phone is buzzing, so one line is plenty; the longer message can wait for January 1.
| When | What to send | What to say |
|---|---|---|
| December 26–30 | Your holiday card, or a text | The holiday first, "and a happy New Year" last |
| New Year's Eve, during the day | A text or a call, before the plans start | "Have a great night. See you next year!" |
| At midnight | One short line by text | "Happy New Year!" and their name. Save the long one. |
| January 1 | The card, the call, the longer message | One thing from the year behind, one wish for the year ahead |
| January 2–14 | Still fine, especially the first time you talk this year | "Happy New Year!" as the opener |
| After mid-January | A catch-up message | "Hope your year's off to a good start" instead |

How to write a New Year wish in three lines
"Happy New Year, Marcus! You got me through a rough spring with bad jokes and good coffee. I hope 2027 brings you that new job, and a desk by the window." Three parts, in this order:
- Their name and the greeting.
- One thing from the year behind: a thank-you, a memory, something they did well.
- One specific wish for the year ahead. A trip, a promotion, more sleep. Specific beats big.
Happy New Year or Happy New Year's?
"Happy New Year" wishes someone a good year, so it works from late December well into January. "Happy New Year's" is short for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, so it only really fits those two days. On a card, "Happy New Year" is the safe pick.
- Capitalize it in the greeting: Happy New Year!
- Use lowercase when you mean the year itself: all the best in the new year.
- New Year's Eve and New Year's Day take capitals and the apostrophe.
How it works
- Pick a cardPilots, mermaids, rock stars, one very surprised cake. Every one shows a real example first.
- Add their photosOne clear face each, up to 5 people. A selfie is fine. No sign-up.
- See it free, then payOne picture of them in the card in about 10 seconds. Like it? Apple Pay or Google Pay, and four pictures arrive about 20 seconds later, the video in about 90.
What is a good message for the new year?
One that's only about them: their name, one thing from the year you're grateful for, and one specific wish. "Happy New Year, Sam! Thanks for talking me into that pottery class. I hope 2027 brings you the kiln you keep looking at." Short on time? "Happy New Year, Sam! Glad you're in my life for another one" works for almost anyone.
What are some short and sweet New Year wishes?
"Happy 2027! Let's make it a fun one." "Cheers to 2027 and to you." "Wishing you a year of good days." Short ones work best as a text at midnight, when everyone's phone is buzzing. Save the longer message for a card or a call on January 1.
How long can you say Happy New Year?
There's no rule. Through the first week or two of January it sounds natural, especially the first time you see or write to someone that year. After that, "Hope your year's off to a good start" fits better than a late Happy New Year.
What do you write in a New Year message for work?
Thank them for something specific, wish them a good year and keep it short: "Thanks for a great year working together. Wishing you a happy, healthy 2027." For clients, leave out offers and sales talk, and sign it with a person's name, not only the company's.
Can I send a New Year card with their face in it?
Yes. Tap a wish, add a clear photo of them and pay. HiWith puts them in a New Year scene: riding the countdown ball all the way down, hanging on till midnight, asleep in an armchair in the middle of the party, or, for a toddler, as Baby New Year. It's $4.99 for four pictures and a short video, ready about 20 seconds after you pay. A card you buy keeps working, so you can make it early and send the link at midnight.
